Delphinium
Splendid spires of semi-double, deep blue flowers in June and July and deeply lobed, mid-green leaves. These towering delphiniums make spectacular and long-lasting cut-flowers. Shorter-lived than many other varieties they're best grown as annuals or biennials towards the back of a sunny, well-drained border.Position: full sunSoil: fertile, well-drained soilRate of growth: averageFlowering period: June and JulyFlower colour: deep blueOther features: all parts of the plant may cause severe discomfort if ingested; contact with the sap may cause skin irritationHardiness: fully hardyGarden care: Stake with bamboo canes in mid-spring. During the growing season apply a balanced liquid fertiliser every 2-3 weeks and wearing gloves cut back the faded flower-stems to a flowering side-shoot.
