Clusters of white flowers in June, followed by masses of almost spherical bright red berries, and dark green leaves, often bronze-tinted in winter. This vigorous, semi-evergreen shrub or tree is an excellent specimen plant for a sunny spot. For maximum success chose a site with moderately fertile, well-drained soil and plenty of space.Position: full sun or partial shadeSoil: moderately fertile, well-drained soilRate of growth: fast-growingFlowering period: JuneFlower colour: whiteOther features: the seeds of the fruit may cause mild stomach upset if ingested; the bright-red berries are highly attractive to birdsHardiness: fully hardyGarden care: In late spring or early summer after flowering lightly cut back any branches that spoil the symmetry of the plant and apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant. In autumn trim back lightly any branches that obscure the display of fruitGoes well with: Berberis thunbergii 'Atropurpurea Nana', Myrtus communis, Buddleja davidii 'White Profusion', Lonicera x purpusii, Saxifraga x urbium, Crocus chryanthus 'Herald'
