Bleeding Hearts
An outstanding variety with rosy-pink, heart-shaped blooms dangle above finely cut, blue-green foliage. The compact habit and long flowering period make it a delight in the garden. As long as the ground is kept moist it thrives well in full sun or partial shade.Dicentras are northern hemisphere plants, growing from Asia to North America. In their natural habitat they are found in moist soils in the cool margins of woodlands.Position: full sun or partial shadeSoil: moist, humus-rich rich, preferably neutral to slightly alkalineRate of growth: averageFlowering period: May to NovemberFlower colour: rosy-pinkOther features: grey-green leavesHardiness: fully hardyGarden care: Dicentras are happy in any good garden soil that's fertile but not too heavy. It's a good idea to enrich the soil with plenty of leaf mould before planting and apply a mulch in autumn too. A light fertilising in March will help enormously |
